PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method for intra-furnace hearth roll build up resistance having the high correlation between an evaluation test result and an actual used result, and a device therefor. SOLUTION: A metal belt loop is wound to a pair of transfer rolls in a test furnace 1, one of the transfer rolls 3 is supported rotatably at fixed place and is connected to a drive motor 6 adjustable for speed, the other roll 7 is supported so that a space between one of the transfer rolls can be adjusted, a variable load is applied in the interval changing direction, a test roll 2, which is arranged outside a belt loop 9 between both transfer rolls, in parallel with a rotating axis line of the transfer rolls and is movable in the direction orthogonal to a belt face, is arranged, a drive motor speed adjustable is connected to the test roll, a belt is rotated/transferred by rotating one of the transfer roll at prescribed speed, further, by rotating the test roll at prescribed speed, the test roll is pressed on the belt in a prescribed quantity, after a prescribed time elapes, a state of the surface of the test roll is observed.
