PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyurethane emulsion with improved solvent resistance, heat resistance, storage stability and miscible stability with another aqueous emulsion, and a method for preparing the same. SOLUTION: A method for preparing a polyurethane emulsion by adding a low-molecular compound having at least one group selected from a primary amino group, a secondary amino group, a primary hydroxyl group and a secondary hydroxyl group in the molecule in or after emulsifying a polyurethane prepolymer having an isocyanate group in the molecule in water to effect reaction which method comprises adding (a) a compound having an epoxy group in the molecule to the polyurethane prepolymer emulsification of the polyurethane prepolymer and prior to the adding (b) a polyvinyl alcohol polymer having at least one group selected from primary and secondary amino groups in the molecule simultaneously with or separately from the low-molecular compound to effect reaction.
