PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid an increase in the discharge of HC by over enriching an air-fuel ratio at the starting of assist air feeding. SOLUTION: When the fluctuation of engine revolutions is in a specified range after an engine has been started (S2), the feed of assist air is kept at an isolated condition for the specified period of time t1, or up to water temperature Tw1 (S2 and S3). Meanwhile, when the fluctuation of engine revolutions exceeds a specified value at the time before the aforesaid specified time or at the temperature lower than the specified temperature (S2), let the feed of assist air be started at once (S4). By this constitution, fuel adhered onto an assist air injection port and the like, is turned out to be gradually fed to cylinders before the feed of assist air is started, and adhered fuel will never be fed to the cylinders simultaneously together with assist air by one charge.
