PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and lightweight ink jet recorder in which high speed recording operation can be accomplished by relaxing the aging drive current distribution through reduction of instantaneous drive current thereby minimizing the current capacity of a power supply. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder repeating a cycle for forming an image point on a recording sheet 1 by radiating focused ultrasonic wave toward ink and flying an ink drop from the vicinity of a focal point toward the recording sheet 1 comprises a plurality of recording heads 14a-14d each having an array of ultrasonic wave generating elements and a drive circuit therefor wherein the drive circuit for each recording head 14a-14d drive the array of ultrasonic wave generating elements such that the recording heads 14a-14d elect ink drops at different timing.
