PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outdoor unit for air conditioner in which defrosting time is shortened through use of waste heat from a compressor and a wire heater in combination. SOLUTION: An outdoor heat exchanger 5, an axial flow fan 7 and a lateral compressor 8 contained in a containing box 9 are disposed in an outdoor unit body 1 comprising a bottom plate 2, and a casing 3 being fixed thereto. The outdoor unit comprises an air heating box 10 arranged with a wire heater 10a on one side of the containing box 9, an air pump 11 disposed continuously to the other side of the air heating box 10, a solenoid valve 12 coupled through piping with the air outlet 11b of the air pump 11, and air piping 13a, 13b, 13c, 13d extending from the delivery coupling 12b of the solenoid valve 12 and returning to the inside of the containing box 9 while being integrated with fins of the outdoor heat exchanger 5. At the time of defrost operation, the wire heater 10a is conducted and the solenoid valve 12 is opened and the air pump 11 is operated.
