PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-density resin compsn. excellent in stiffness, toughness, and impact resistance by melt mixing and kneading a thermoplastic polyester with a nonfibrous inorg. filler and an org. compd. having a functional group reactive with the thermoplastic polyester. SOLUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by melt mixing and kneading 100 pts.wt. thermoplastic polyester, pref. a polyalkylene terephthalate, with a nonfibrous inorg. filler, pref. a silicate compd., pref. in an amt. of 0.1-40 wt.% (in terms of inorg. ash in the compsn.) and an org. compd., pref. in an amt. of 0.05-10 pts.wt., having at least one functional group reactive with the thermoplastic polyester. Pref., the org. compd. having at least one functional group reactive with the thermoplastic polyester is an olefin compd. (polymer) having a carboxylic anhydride group. Pref., the nonfibrous inorg. filler is a layered silicate having its interlayer exchangeable cations exchanged by org. onium ions. |
