PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously realize the miniaturization of the whole of a recording apparatus and a increase in the capacity of ink. SOLUTION: A recording head 3 having ink emitting orifices and an ink sub-tank 7 are provided on the carriage 2 movable in the lateral direction of a recording medium 1. The ink sub-tank 7 consists of an ink chamber 8 housing only ink 5 and a buffer chamber 9 housing the ink 5 and an ink holding member 6, both of which communicate by a slit 11. An ink receiving port 13 receiving the supply of the ink 5 from the outside, in such a case that the absence of ink is judged when the presence of the ink in the ink chamber 8 is optically detected by using the prism part 12 of the bottom surface part of the ink chamber 8 when the carriage 2 arrives at a standby position, is provided to the upper part of the ink chamber 8. |
