PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a completion of melting by evaluating heat balance during furnace operation in order to confirm the completion of melting without requiring manual work in a versatile manner. SOLUTION: Quantity Qmelt of heat consumed for melting a waste is calculated by using a heat balance equation during operation of a plasma melting furnace, Qp=Qt+Qexh+Qacc+Qloss+Qmelt, (wherein Qp is plasma output, Qt is torch cooling loss, Qexh is exhaust gas loss, Qacc is furnace refractory heat storage quantity, Qloss is furnace body radiation heat, and Qmelt is heat quantity consumed for melting waste), and the time. when the Qmelt has reached a heat quantity required to melting the waste is detected as a melting completion time.
