PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent adhesion of powdery dust to the nozzle face incident to operation of a cutter mechanism or a feed roller disposed above a print head by controlling the operation such that the nozzle face is covered with a capping mechanism at a print head waiting position during pause or cutting operation. SOLUTION: A carriage 3 carrying a print head 2 can be moved by a moving mechanism 4 in the direction intersecting the feeding direction of a sheet P. The sheet P is fed into the gap between a platen 5 and the print head 2 by means of a sheet feeding mechanism and a print image is formed by ejecting ink drops. A waiting area B is a pause area of the print head 2 and a maintenance unit 10 waiting thereat comprises a cap member 11 for preventing dry up of a nozzle, a pump for sucking ink from the nozzle, and an elastic blade 12 for wiping contaminants off from the nozzle face. According to the structure, vibration incident to a mechanism for cutting the sheet P by means of a round cutter carried on the carriage and a fixed cutter, evaporation of ink in the vicinity of the nozzle, and adhesion of powdery dust to the nozzle face can be prevented. |
