PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stainless steel having high temp. wear resistance enabling its use for the disk break of a motorcycle for the races, i.e., having 32 to 38 HRC cold hardness, free from softening even if being repeatedly heated and cooled to about 700 deg.C, moreover excellent in wear resistance and furthermore low in a thermal expansion coefficient. SOLUTION: This stainless steel has a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.40 to 0.60% C, <=2.0% Si <=2.0% Mn, <=0.040% P, <=0.030% S, <=0.50% Cu, 3.0 to 5.0% Ni, 16.0 to 20.0% Cr, 0.1 to 1.0% Mo, and the balance Fe with impurities.
