PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform automatic return operation when a vibration control device is stopped as a result of an additional mess being excessively displaced. SOLUTION: A vibration control device 1 controls vibration in a horizontal direction of a building 2 through movement of an additional mass 6 by a dynamic absorber 3 arranged on the roof floor of the building 2. A control device 4 automatically returns an additional mass 6 to a center (a point C) in a moving range by drive a motor 8 after a lapse of a given time after a system is stopped once when the additional mass 6 is moved to a position where this mass exceeds a preset moving range. This constitution brings the system into a stop state when the additional mass 6 is excessively displaced but at a point of time when a given time elapses, the motor 8 is driven and the additional mass 6 is automatically returned to a center position. Thereby, labor and time required for a return work effected by a worker are eliminated, maintenance when the additional mass is excessively displaced is eliminated, and rapid return to a vibration control state is practicable.
