A supple product having a base layer of rubber or other p elastomeric or plastomeric material, including a deformable layer of metal elements securely bonded to the base layer and serving as a support for a heat-resistant protective covering of a layer of cermet, without substantially impairing the deformability of the product. The metal layer may be continuous, such as a layer of metal granules, or a metal fabric, with or without weft, a layer of metal plates sufficiently close to form a substantially continuous layer, or metal plates partially overlapping each other in the manner of scales, one part of the lower surface of said plates adhering to the rubber and the complementary part of the upper surface of said plates supporting the refractory covering. The metal elements may be made of steel treated by brass plating or galvanisation after application to the base layer. They may then be cleaned by sand-blasting or grinding. A metal such as aluminium is applied as a porous layer by means of a blow-gun and the porous layer is impregnated with a hydrocarbon containing in suspension a very fine powder of calcined alumina of calcined aluminium oxide. The layer is then heated to 230 DEG to form the cermet. The coating may be applied to conveyor belts or pipes. |
