1,072,060. Applying medicaments. M. VON ARDENNE. Sept. 10, 1964, No. 37078/64. Heading A5R. An arrangement for the percutaneous application of a medicament to parts or substantially the entire body surface of a patient and into the body tissue comprises a container for the body part, the container being soundpermeable and able to contain the medicament, and means being provided for applying sound pressure waves to the outside of the container. As illustrated, the patient 9 and medicament 8 are placed in a container having sound permeable walls 4 of polyethylene, the container being within an outer metal container 2 containing distilled water 10 and discharge electrodes 3, 17. Repeated discharges in the water cause pressure waves which force the medicament into the skin. The treatment may be concentrated at certain parts of the body of the patient by suitably shaping or varying the spacing of the electrodes, or small containers holding concentrated medicament may be held to these body parts.
