PURPOSE: A blue fluorescent substance for plasma display panel is provided which enhances the color purity and the luminance by adding a minor of the rare earth elements as the co-activator. CONSTITUTION: The composition of blue luminescent phosphor for plasma display panel is represented as the following formula: BaMg(a)Al(b)O(1+a+1.5b): Eu, M wherein a is 0.7-2.5, b is 4.0-10, and M is at least one rare earth element among terbium(Tb), cerium(Ce), praseodymium(Pr), dysprosium(Dr), and erbium(Er). 1-5 wt.% of Eu as the activator and 3-50000 ppm (especially, 100-10000 ppm) of M as the co-activator are desirable against the total weight of phosphor. The blue luminescent phosphor for plasma display panel is made by mixing of Ba, Mg, Al, Eu, and at least one rare earth element among Tb, Ce, Pr, Dr, and Er with an ablation material, and two steps of plastic working. The first plastic working is an oxidative plastic working process at 1200-1800°C. The second plastic working is a weakly reductive plastic working process at 1200-1500°C to convert the valence of Eu from +3 to +2. |
