PURPOSE: A permanent and neutral hair dye composition is provided to improve the dyeing effect and the dyeing stability, to decrease the time required for dyeing, and to minimize the damage of hair. CONSTITUTION: The hair dye composition comprises 1.10-1.30 parts by weight of p-phenylenediamine; 0.09-0.11 parts by weight of o-amino phenol; 0.11-0.13 parts by weight of N-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine; 0.11-0.13 parts by weight of alpha-naphthol; 0.80-0.90 parts by weight of resorcin; 6-10 parts by weight of one or more solvents selected from propylene glycol, butyleneglycol and glycerin; 10-13 parts by weight of cetanol or stearyl alcohol; 15-18 parts by weight of one or more emulsifiers selected from hydrophobic glycerin monster, polyoxyethylenecetyl ether and polyoxyethyleneoctylphenyl ether; 0.5-3 parts by weight of a hair conditioner, a sequestering agent, an antioxidizing agent, a wetting agent and an agent for protecting the hair; and 56-62 parts by weight of a distilled water. The wetting agent comprises 0.5-2.0 wt% of sodium hyaluronate and is used in the amount of 0.18-0.22 parts by weight, and the agent for protecting the hair is selected from a liquid sodium dl-pyrrolidonecarboxylate and a liquid silk extract and is used in the amount of 0.15-0.25 parts by weight. The hair dye is weakly acidic or neutral of pH 6.0-8.0 and creamy, and has a viscosity of about 7,000-9,000 cps. The color is natural brown.
