PURPOSE: A method is provided to realize the optimum cooking by performing with an infrared ray sensor reacting with the surface temperature of popcorn. CONSTITUTION: Popcorn is cooked with a microwave oven by the steps of: judging if a specific time is passed after feeding power; producing the average surface temperature of popcorn detected through an infrared ray sensor per certain time unit; producing the change rate of the produced average; judging if the change rate reaches a certain level; judging if the change rate is raised; and deciding the finishing time if the change rate is raised, or continuing to operate a magnetron. Popcorn is cooked more efficiently by deciding the finishing time according to the surface temperature of popcorn.
