PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for transmitting/receiving a message in real time using a directory server is provided to perform a common operation and a business connection through real time communication by using a directory server without an additional server constitution. CONSTITUTION: A user registration unit(101) is connected to a directory server when a program is started, and registers one's personal information as the user name, an internet address and a port number. A message preparing unit(102) is a block for preparing a message to be transmitted to the other person. A message transmission unit(103) is a block for transmitting a prepared document to an address of selected user. A message display unit(104) is a block for displaying a received message on a screen. A message receiving unit(105) is a block for receiving a message transmitted by a user. A user display unit(106) is a block for displaying a list of all users. A user searching unit(107) is a block for receiving user information and searching as to a change of user. control unit(108) is a block for selecting a user to be received a message out of the user list and searching the address of selected user from the directory server. An operating system(109) is a program group for controlling all resources related to a computer. A TCP/IP stack(110) is a communication network protocol of the UNIX system connected through the internet, and processes data in the reverse order of a data appending order in the list. A network(111) is a transmission medium network comprising a device and a line used for connecting to a terminal in a data communication system. A user interface(112) is a block for converting a code, data form and transmission velocity in a user terminal and a system being connected to a directory server.
