PURPOSE: A method for driving a three electrode surface discharge plasma display panel is provided to prevent a duplicate display of an image by displaying odd and even field signals only on odd and even numbered horizontal display lines, respectively. CONSTITUTION: Image signals of an even field is divided into a plurality of sub fields having different luminances. The plurality of sub fields are sequentially displayed in an order of a reset period which resets all cell of an even line among a horizontal line, an address period which scans the even line to select a cell corresponding to a sub field value, and a sustain discharge period which displays the selected cell. Image signals of an odd field is divided into a plurality of sub fields having different luminances. The plurality of sub fields are sequentially displayed in an order of a reset period which resets all cell of an odd line among a horizontal line, an address period which scans the odd line to select a cell corresponding to a sub field value, and a sustain discharge period which displays the selected cell.
