PURPOSE: A method for protecting a turbo charger and an apparatus thereof are provided to drive a vehicle without waiting for warm-up after starting, and to prevent the damage of the turbo charger due to initial sudden acceleration. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for protecting a turbo charger includes a turbo charger rpm sensor(11) sensing the rpm of the turbo charger, a cooling water temperature sensor(12) sensing the temperature of the cooling water, a starting key(13) sensing the starting state, an engine ECU(15) sensing the starting state of an engine, the temperature of the cooling water, and the rpm of the turbo charger by the sensors and driving a relay(RY) circulating lubricating oil and a solenoid valve, the solenoid valve opening up a space between an oil tank and the turbo charger by receiving a driving signal outputted from the engine ECU, the relay supplying power source applied from a battery(16) to a motor(17) by receiving a driving signal outputted from the engine ECU, and the motor operating the oil pump by receiving power source from the battery for circulating lubricating oil of the turbo charger. A method for protecting the turbo charger includes the steps of confirming the starting key, sensing the temperature of the cooling water when the starting key is operated, confirming whether the temperature is more than a predetermined temperature, and operating the motor for circulating lubricating oil filled in a bearing case if the temperature is less than the predetermined temperature.
