METHOD FOR CONTROLLING OVERLOAD OF VISITOR LOCATION REGISTER IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method for controlling overload of a visitor location register(VLR) in a mobile communication system restrict a location registration request from a mobile station according to a load state of visitor location register, and controls overload of VLR. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling overload comprises the step of; initializing(S1) a location register limitation bit stream in MSA(mobile station signaling access) of ASP(access switching processor) of MSC(mobile switching center), and index about a bit order of this bit stream; recognizing a load step of VLR(visitor location register) sensed by TRC(traffic resource control), if a location registration request message is received from the mobile station; converting the initialized location registration limitation bit stream to a location registration limitation bit stream format proper to the load step. According to each bit value from a first bit to the last bit of the changed location registration limitation bit stream; transmitting a location registration request message to VLR, or abolishing it; transmitting a location registration message to VLR in case of a bit value of '0'; abolishing(S13) a location registration request message in case of a bit value of '1' and does not transmit it to the VLR; changing a location registration limitation bit stream to be referenced according to the load step of the VLR; and restricting a location registration request of MS according to the changed location registration limitation bit stream. In case of over load of the VLR, the method does not transmit a location registration request message to the VLR. Thereby, a load of VLR is reduced, and a stable operation of VLR is achieved.
