PURPOSE: A method is provided to remove pollutants adhered on the surface of a heat exchanger in an outdoor unit in a system itself. CONSTITUTION: In outdoor unit of an air conditioner, the introduced air through an air inlet(24) of an air suction grill(20) is fed to an indoor unit after being cooled through a heat exchanger(8) if a ventilating fan(16) starts to be revolved by the action of a ventilating motor(14) to normally exchange heat. A micro controller judges if an inner system of an air conditioner is acted and controls to temporarily stop the relevant action if the inner system is acted. Also, the micro controller controls the ventilating motor to be driven in the reverse direction during a specific time. Then, the ventilating fan is revolved in the reverse direction so the air of the outdoor unit as to be flowed to the heat exchanger from the front face to remove dust accumulated on the surface of the heat exchanger.
