PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for transmitting printing data is provided to skip a data conversion process when a simplex printing is performed and a duplex printing is performed. CONSTITUTION: A frame buffer memory(21) converts input image information into bitmap-typed image data. A parallel/serial converting unit(22) converts the image data stored in the frame buffer memory(21) into serial data, and transmits the data to an engine unit. The parallel/serial converting unit(22) comprises a frame buffer memory(221) and a both directions shift register(222). The buffer memory(221) receives and stores image data stored in the frame buffer memory(21), and outputs the data. In case that a simplex printing is performed, data are received from the data stored in a start address out of image data stored in the frame buffer memory(221) successively. In case that a duplex printing is performed, data are received from the data stored in a last address out of image data stored in the frame buffer memory(221). The both directions shift register(222) transmits image data inputted from the frame buffer memory(221) to the engine unit in serial by one bit. A direction controller(223) generates a direction control signal for making the transmission directions of the simplex printing and the duplex printing reverse.
