PURPOSE: A method for controlling a volume automatically is provided to emphasize a breaking news and to catch the breaking news in a turn-off state of a television by automatically making a volume loud when the breaking news is detected. CONSTITUTION: A judgment is made whether a television is turned on(S1). If the television is turned on, a judgment is made if an urgent news code is detected(S2). If the television is not turned on, a judgment is made if the urgent news code is detected(S3). If the urgent news code is detected, a present volume is raised up to a certain step to be louder. If the urgent news code is not detected, the present volume is normally outputted(S4). If the urgent news code is detected, the television is turned on and the present volume is turned up to be louder(S7, S8).
