The invention relates to a method for the separation of a lanthanide catalyst from a production mixture from a catalytic process and recycling of this in the process, in which method the lanthanide catalyst is removed from a product mixture, containing a lanthanide catalyst and obtained from a catalytic process, by means of a cation exchange resin and the lanthanide catalyst is returned to the process, the method further comprising a stage in which the lanthanide catalyst is released from the said resin. The catalytic process is performed wholly or partially with the use of the lanthanide catalyst that is removed from the product mixture by means of the said resin. This method can be used in the manufacture of kelatering agents.
