The mesh includes folded wire giving support in an open structure between metal sheets, one of which is perforated. The metallic structure comprises two sheets of material (1,2), between which there is a further media (3) which provides a large percentage of empty space. The first sheet (1) comprises a metal layer having a rectangular array of holes (4) cut in it. The second parallel sheet (2) which is also made of metal may be a continuous sheet, or may have perforations to serve as a filter. Between these two sheets there is a wire mesh (3) made from two series of intersecting wires. The wires are folded to give a wave-like surface. Upper corners of the wire mesh are welded to the upper sheet (1) and the lower corners of the mesh are welded to the lower sheet. The holes in the first sheet allow the insertion of welding electrodes in order to enable the attachment of the wire mesh to the sheet material.
