The method is designed to exchange data between the non volatile memory of a micro-circuit card and an automatic vending machine into which the card is temporarily inserted to enable a service to be delivered. The card contains monetary value data which is to be debited by the vending for the delivered service. The method includes stages in which the vending machine controls the modification, between two states, of a ratification indicator contained in the cards memory. That is to say a ratified state corresponding to the case where a preceding transaction is carried out correctly and a non-ratified state where this preceding transaction has been interrupted. The vending machine successively: - debits conditionally the card, if the indicator is in the ratified state; - controls the positioning by the card of the indicator to the non ratified state if a debit has been operated in the preceding stage; - controls afterwards the delivery of the service, and; - if the service is effectively delivered at the preceding stage, controls the positioning by the card of the indicator to the ratified state.
