PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for converting a screen according to a detection of a WSS signal is provided to increase the vertical resolution by accurately detecting a picture ratio of a video signal included in a broadcasting signal. CONSTITUTION: An antenna unit(110) receives a broadcasting signal. A microcomputer(130) outputs a control signal. A tuning unit(120) tunes a channel in the broadcasting signal received from the antenna unit(110). A WSS signal detection unit(140) detects a WSS signal. A YUV decoder(150) converts a video signal into a YUV signal. A video interpolation unit(160) interpolates a line of a video signal under the control of the microcomputer(130). A deflection unit(170) detects a luminescence signal of the YUV signal converted from the video interpolation unit(160) under the control of the microcomputer(130). An RGB decoder(180) converts the YUB signal into a color signal. A display unit(190) receives the luminescence signal detected from the deflection unit(170) and the control signal converted from the RGB decoder(180).
