PURPOSE: A detergent composition containing an anionic surfactant as a main component and an insoluble nonionic surfactant having softening performance is provided, which has an effect on softening and cleaning fibers. CONSTITUTION: The detergent composition comprises 1 to 50% by weight of an anionic surfactant, a nonionic surfactant or mixtures thereof, bentonite, a fluorescent brightener, a coloring agent, a bluing agent, enzyme, and perfume. This composition contains 1 to 10% by weight of water insoluble polyethyleneglycol fatty acid ester of formula (I) and (II). In formula, R1, R2 and R3 are C8-22 primary or secondary alkyl, n is 4 to 15.
