Successively conveyed flat articles are deposited onto a conveyor (3), which continues at a lower speed, in an imbricated formation by a speed-reducing device above the deposited articles, consisting of an assemblage of parallel belts (4) driven at the same speed as the continuing conveyor. They are pressed against the developing impricated workpiece arrangement by wheels or rollers (7) mounted on pivotable levers (8).
