The present invention is directed to mucosal originated drug delivery system s and methods for using the drug delivery system to treat conditions in animal s. Conditions amenable to treatment according to the invention are also described. The described mucosal drug delivery systems provide for drug release across a mucosal membrane as well as release away from the mucosal membrane.
