METAL HALIDE LAMP WITH STEM MOUNTED SUPPORT FRAME FOR ARC TUBE SHIELD

A protective sleeve (40) of quartz surrounding a metal halide arc tube (28) is fixed to upright portions (58, 62) of a frame (50) by means of retaining rings (34, 36). The frame (50) has lower ends (52, 64) formed with coils (54, 66) fitted over the glass stem (12) in an interference fit, thereby insulating the frame (50) from the electrical leads (18, 22) sealed in the stem. An intermediate portion (60) of the frame (50) fits closely in the opposite end (16) of the lamp (14) to stabilize the burner assembly (28) and shield (40).
