The invention relates to an infusion pump for administering a dose of a medicament into the body of a patient which can be determined by an electronic control unit. The pump is provided with a computer for calculating the respective maximum permissible dosage according to the dose which was previously administered. The pump is also provided with a blocking device for preventing the additional administering of the medicament when a predetermined permissible maximal value has been exceeded. According to the invention, the computer determines the respective dose or concentration of the active substance in the body of the patient, said dose or concentration resulting from the administered dose of the medicament and the decomposition thereof in the body. The computer compares this dose or concentration with the predetermined maximum value.
