In this publication a band-making process has been described, in which process, into a knitted article made with a heavy-needle circular knitting machine, there is knitted, instead of a thread used in the knitted article, at a distance of a desired band width from the edge, a thin rubber thread which tolerates the knitting by virtue of its elasticity. The thin rubber thread, which breaks in two when pulled, is knitted into the whole of the helical knitted article, whereupon the knitted article can be pulled by the rubber thread to form a band of uniform width.
