The coupling device allows a headrest (13) for an automobile passenger seat (10) to be adjusted automatically between a lowered rest position and a raised working position in dependence on the movement of the seat belt (20), with a stop device (48) holding the headrest in the working position. The headrest can be adjusted in height relative to the seatback (12) from the raised working position.
