The invention relates to a method for the production of linear, alternating carbon monoxide copolymers from carbon monoxide and olefinically unsaturated compounds, wherein the monomers are copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst system containing as active components a defined metal complex chelated with a tridentate or bidentate ligand based on a transition metal selected from groups VIIIB, IB or IIB of the periodic table and a free Brönsted acid that is not hydrohalic acid and has a pKa value of < 6 or a strong Lewis acid in a liquid medium containing at least one C1- to C10-alcohol and at least one C3- to C10-ketone, wherein the portion of C3- to C10-ketone ranges from 5 to 35 % by volume in relation to the mixture of inert liquid components.
