Determining motor vehicle generator power reserve by calculation of instantaneous maximum power available and comparison with instantaneous power being drawn

The maximum current (Imax) that can be delivered from the generator under the current operating conditions is determined and this is compared with the current being taken from the generator (Iist) and a difference value calculated which represents the current available for charging the battery (L). From the available power reserve and the power being used by the generator it can be determined whether one or a number of power drains (L1...LN) need to be shut off or have their power supply reduced.
