The diffractive element (3) comprises two different segments. The segments of the diffractive element are structured so that a first segment forms the first focal point (F1) while the other segment forms one of the other focal points (F2) in at least one of the further focal planes being further away from the surface (5) of the workpiece (1) facing the laser light source. Apparatus for cutting, welding, boring or removing a workpiece (1) comprises: (a) a laser light source producing the laser light (2); (b) a diffractive element (3) focusing a part (2a) of the laser beam to a first focal point (F1) in a first plane neighboring the surface (5) of the workpiece facing away from the laser light and focusing a further part (2b) to a further focal point opposite the first focal point; and (c) a device for relatively moving between the laser beam and the workpiece. The diffractive element (3) comprises two different segments. The segments of the diffractive element are structured so that a first segment forms the first focal point (F1) while the other segment forms one of the other focal points (F2) in at least one of the further focal planes being further away from the surface (5) of the workpiece (1) facing the laser light source. |
