The pump has an electrically commutated DC motor and a multi-stage pump mechanism of which the output channels are connected to inlet channels of subsequent stages. Each pump wheel (6) of a pump stage consists of a permanently magnetisable material and is subjected to a rotating magnetic field generated by stator windings (7) in a housing part (8) associated with each individual pump wheel. The pump wheels are mounted on a common axle (10), which is permanently supported in housing bearings.
