A card is fitted with a gearbox (24) driven by a motor (28) which has two outputs (26,27), one for driving one of the drive rollers (13a,13b) for the flats and one for the clearer brush (17). The distance between the output shafts (26,27) is constant and the gearbox (24) preferably pivots round the output shaft (27) for the flat drive.
