The road vehicle has a crash detection sensor (2) that triggers an air bag unit (1) . The vehicle is equipped with a video camera (5) that feeds input to an accident recording memory (4). When the crash sensor responds, the data in the memory is permanently retained, including sequences relating to the period before impact. Independent claims are included for a crash detection device suitable for executing the method.
