The branching work is simple, and shrinkage of the cover of an optical cable in its axial direction due to temperature change is prevented. A device (40) for branching multi-fiber optical cable comprises a main branching section and a sub-branching section. An optical cable (50) is branched into optical fiber bundles at the main branching section, and each fiber bundle is branched into single-core optical fibers at the sub-branching section. Each single-core optical fiber is covered with a protective tube (72') and led out. The cover (56) of the optical cable (50) is secured by a cover securing member (80) and a pressing member (90). The length of the protective tube (72') is short, and consequently the work of inserting each single-core optical fiber is easy. Even if a single-core optical fiber is found defective later, the branching work is only for the sub-branching section.
