<p>The present invention is a method and apparatus for forming and sealing the top end (32) of a container (400) prior to filling and bottom sealing. The top end (32) of the container (400) has a fitment (114) attached thereon for accessing the product. The fitment (114) may be applied at a variety of different sites on a form, fill and seal packaging machine. The top end (32) of the container (400) is formed on a mandrel (420) having a predetermined contour (421) such as a tetrahedral. The predetermined contour (421) allows for the proper sealing of the top end (32) of the container (400) when the top end has an atypical configuration such as a tetrahedral top. The fitment application means (487) may be subsequent to the forming and sealing of the top end (32), or it may be positioned about the rotation of the mandrel (420).</p> |
