The flats (14) on a card are driven by toothed belts and are cleaned by a clearer roller (17). The flat drive has a guide shoe which allows the flats to be moved nearer or away from the clearer (17). A screw adjustment allows provides a travel of 1 to 3 mm. The clearer (17) runs at low speed and is in turn cleaned by a high-speed brush roller.
