An inhibitor comprising a concentrated aqueous calcium oxide or hydroxide suspension is introduced before or during the agglomeration process, to inhibit formation of dioxins and furans. The inhibitor can be directly mixed with the constituents before being fed into the plant, or can be introduced at the same time as one of the constituents, preferably coal powder. The inhibitor is an agent capable of liberating ammonia under operational conditions, particularly at the agglomeration temperature. The mixing operations are carried out in a rotary mixer (drum), and moisture contents of up to 8% of the total supplied material are possible. |
