The present process of producing filtering material is characterized in that before washing polyolefin fibers made as two-component fibers of the type core/jacket or side/side, whose one component consists of polyethylene and the other from polypropylene are mixed with polyacrylonitrile fibers in weight ratio polyolefin fibers to polyacrylonitrile fibers within the range of 30 : 70 to 80 : 20, whereupon lubricants and antistatic agents are removed from both the polyolefin fibers and polyacrylonitrile fibers by washing. Subsequently the washed polyolefin fibers and polyacrylonitrile fibers are dried and then a web is formed from them by carding. The web is then stitched and reinforced by thermal activation of the two-component fibers, optionally shaped.
