The invented device (3) serves for indication of an electric instrument failure, particularly a voltage discharge gap (1). It is provided with a sensor (10) of active resistance type for detecting faulty current flowing through an instrument, further an airtight insulating body (6) and an indication element (16). The insulating body (6) is encircled by a two-part metallic cover (4) carrying the indication element (16). Both the sensor and the insulating body are part of a switching element (5) whose function is to move both the parts of the metallic cover (4) counter each other by generation of compressed gas when faulty current is detected. At the same time the indication element (16) became visible and the faulty current is taken over by a galvanic connection being made up.
