PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest of a seat for automobiles which is capable of preventing wrinkles to the backrest surface side of a skin material by pulling and stretching the backrest surface side of the skin material without the wrinkles in a state of temporarily fixing the skin material to a seat pad. SOLUTION: The seat pad 3 and a seat frame 4 are inserted into a trim cover assembly 2 from its opening 2a. This trim cover assembly 2 is put on the seat pad 3 and the seat frame 4. The skin 2c on the back rest surface side of the backrest 2 is pulled and stretched and a temporary fixing member 7 is fixed by an adhesive or the like to a stepped part 3a, by which the trim cover assembly 2 is temporarily fixed to the seat pad 3. The wrinkles of the skin 2c on the backrest surface side are pulled and stretched by the fixation of the temporary fixing member 7 to the stepped part 3a and, therefore, the wrinkles may be removed by spraying steam or the like to the skin 2c on the backrest surface side of the backrest 1 and heating the skin before J traps 5 and 6 are engaged with each other.
