摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the efficiency of catalytic activity under sun rays by using a cation exchanging laminar titanic acid compd. containing metal ions selected from vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, molybdenum, ruthenium, silver or the like in the crystalline structure of the laminar titanium acid. SOLUTION: The photolytic catalyst consists of a cation exchanging laminar titanium acid compd. containing at least one kind of metal ion selected from vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, molybdenum, ruthenium, silver, cadmium and cerium in the crystalline structure of laminar titanic acid. In the photolytic catalyst above described, the laminar titanic acid compd. contains the metal ion, and at least a part of the metal ion is substituted for a part of titanium atoms in the crystalline structure of the laminar titanic acid compd. and decreases the band gap. As a result, the compd. can be excited by irradiation of visible rays in 375 to 550 nm wavelength range, especially >400 nm wavelength range and shows high catalytic activity for photolysis of water or the like.
