PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce shock upon changeover between low idle speeds and to stabilize rotation after the change-over. SOLUTION: In an automatic control device for low idle speed of an engine, an working idle speed and a normal idle speed are set. The device incorporates a speed changeover means A (a desired rotational speed instruction generator 2, a desired rotational speed determining circuit 3, a low rotational speed instruction generator 4 and an instructing rotational speed computing circuit 5) for gradually changing over the speed when the idle speed is changed over from the working idle speed into the normal idle speed.
