PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which does not generate a display defect called a dimple defect. SOLUTION: This device 11 consists of a liquid crystal display panel 1 and a wedge-shaped lightguide plate 4 installed on the back surface of the liquid crystal display panel 1 and whose light entrance side 4a from a light source is made thick. The light exit side 4d of the wedge-shaped lightguide plate 4 is brought into contact with the back surface of the liquid crystal display panel 1 for holding. The thickness of the light entrance side 4a of the wedge-shaped lightguide plate 4 is preferable to be 2.5 mm or less.
